
3 Generations Hindustani Violin Concert - 9th February 2012 Shantanand Auditorium @ 7.30 pm
One of the finest and outstanding artists in the field of music, violin virtuoso Padmabhushan Dr. Smt. N. Rajam needs no introduction. Her magical fingers enchant the tuneful strings of the violin to create a divine and sublime atmosphere. She has brought out a new realm into the world of classical music by introducing the "Gayaki Ang", a technique which presents the vocal style of music on the violin. Dr. Rajam has been honored with many prestigious awards including the Padmabhushan award by the President of India, the Sangeet Natak Akademi award, Padmashri to name a few. She has performed around the globe and has many CDs to her credit.
As the Chairman of Omkarnath Music Foundation Trust, she has organized numerous Hindustani music festivals & competitions particularly to encourage upcoming talented youngsters.
Dr. Sangeeta Shankar, an extremely accomplished artist has been trained under the able tutelage of her mother and Guru, Dr. N. Rajam. Her immensely soulful and ecstatic music on the violin appeals to audiences far and wide. She has performed all over the world and has received numerous awards and applauses for her violin concerts. Dr. Sangeeta has been involved in many projects in the fields of education, culture, art, music & creative pursuits.
The duo also hold Gold medals in Bachelors', Masters' and a doctorate from Banaras Hindu University.
Ragini Shankar(21) and Nandini Shankar(18), daughters of Dr. Sangeeta Shankar have been brought up under the exemplary guidance of their grandmother and mother. Having started at the tender age of four, their training began in Hindustani Classical Music on the violin. They have performed only in selected occasions as both the grandmother and mother do not believe in over-exposing young talent.
These young children are an example for the present generation and will evoke an interest in the minds of other budding youngsters to continue the legacy of Indian Classical Music.
This concert glorifies the union of all the three generations in a unique and special manner highlighting the concept of transmission of knowledge in the traditional Guru-Shishya Parampara.
